Is there a way to teach a teenage rat how to run on its wheel?

i have had my rat for a couple months now and i never really thought about a wheel because i would take it on walks and things like that. But when i started being a little more busy i haven't had a lot of time to give exercise. I was thinking about it and i decided to buy him a wheel. but doesn't know how and don't think i can teach him. is there anyway you can teach an old rat new tricks? Is there a way to teach a teenage rat how to run on its wheel?
I just left the wheel in my rats cage and eventually they got on it and started walking. It just takes some time. You could also try getting your rat a friend so he will have someone to run around and play with, that's what I did.Is there a way to teach a teenage rat how to run on its wheel?
Rats don't like wheels. Hamsters and mice are less intelligent than rats and mindlessly use wheels. Rats hate them. You can't force your rat into doing anything, especially not using a toy it doesn't like. If your rat does not like the wheel then it will not use it no matter what. How about making it a hammock out of an old shirt? That's something your rat will use. And just rat proof a room and let your rat run freely, they love that. If you can't spend as much time with your rat, consider getting it a cagemate. Your rat will then exercise by playing with the other rat.
The best way iz to put peanut butter on the bars of the wheel.I tried this with mi rat and it worked.Even though some rats are very intelligent and know that running on a wheel will be pointless because it doesnt go anywhere.:)So maybe u have a smart rat.Anyway food is the best answer.
Some rats just don't like wheels. I think they get bored with them because they know that they're not going anywhere. I have 10 rats, and only one of them cares about the wheel. Anyway, you cant try putting a treat at the top of the wheel, or something, but rats just don't really like wheels.
most rats don't like wheels...sorry but the best exercise for a rat is for it to out and about.
