Why do teenage growth spurts usually occur during the summer?

More sleep, little stress, more exercise.

Just guesses. Why do teenage growth spurts usually occur during the summer?
I have to agree with Mike on this.

During the school year I don't grow much in 3 months time. But over the summer I will always sleep in and get about 50% more sleep than i do during the school year. When adults say sleep is vital, they're surprisingly right. Getting less sleep during the school year won't exactly dwarf you, i mean i have pretty bad sleeping problems and am 5'10, 15, and still growing.

There may be other causes such as the sun giving you more vitamin D and all of that, but i think sleep is the biggest cause of it.Why do teenage growth spurts usually occur during the summer?
do they? you just don't see certain people for 2-3 months so it seems as they have grown...it doesn't just happen in the summer
